Derek Gallen

Age 29 in 1969. Born 1940. Stands 6'5". Italian heritage. Good-natured grin, easy-going manner. Almost everyone loves Derek.

Moved to Chicago in the early sixties after a tour in Korea, where he flew helicopters for a MASH unit. Became a regular at Daley’s, where he met Lodin. When the Prince needed a pilot for a midnight flight to New York, Derek was the man. Since then he has flown Lodin into and out of cities from St. Louis to Gary.

A risk-taker above all else. Needs the constant stimulation of danger. This gets him in trouble with Lodin, who believes caution is the better part of valor. Derek likes the pay, loves the excitement, and doesn’t ask questions he doesn’t want answered.

Close friends with Amber — they slept together for a while but he moved on. Lusts after Natasha and hates her for her aloofness; he comes on to her every chance he gets. Follows Roarke’s lead but makes it clear he answers to no one. Thinks Julian is a coward.

In the 1969 London flashback, Derek drives the team from Heathrow, handles logistics, and finds the bomb under the Learjet’s starboard wing.
